[How-To] Save Your Visual Studio 2003 Settings.

I've been reading through some documentation on a few of the new bells and whistles that Visual Studio 2005 has to offer, and I almost stood up in applause when I saw that importing and exporting of settings was finally going to be supported nativley in VS 2005. This developer has been wanting this for a long time.I (like most developers) like to have my IDE configured in a very particular way. I like certain windows in a specific locations, my fonts/hilighting to be just so, I have a crazy set of keyboard shortcuts, and a host of external...

Multi-point Touchscreen.

This is the craziest thing I've seen in while... and I want one! It appears to be a touch screen that accepts input from multiple points at once. In this video demonstration you can see at least 8 unique points being tracked. It looks as though some software has even been written to utilize all of the inputs. Unfortunately it looks at though the whole system appears is still in the research stage at this point, but it certainly does evoke images of the Minority Report interface. Fwd: New Words for 2006

As some of you may be aware,a while ago I started keeping an archive of all of the funny/disturbing/oddforwards that find their way to my inbox. Because I'm not really onefor contributing to Memes, chain letters, or the like the archive is really only for the images that those Fwd's contain. However, when I saw the subject line of this particular Fwd (I'm a sucker for office humor), and that fact that it was from a friend who always send quality material, I just had to have aread.I was notdisappointed*. Essential vocabulary additions for the workplace (and elsewhere): BLAMESTORMING: Sitting around in...

EFF Urges Against the Latest Version of Google Desktop.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation is reporting that the latest verion of the Google Desktop search application has a new feature that poses an increased risk to the user's privacy. The new feature, "Search Across Computers" will store copies of the user's documents (Word, PDF, spreadsheet, etc...) on Google owned servers. The idea is to allow the user to search from any of the user's computers. -- I would also envision a type of _Search_From_Anywhere_ feature to be coming in the not so distant future, but this is pure speculation for now. -- According the the EFF, this new feature will...

Requirements - Feast or Famine.

Tonight I was sitting at home, reading through some Business Requirements for an upcoming release at work... sounds like fun, doesn't it!?! Anyhow, I came across a particular line in the documents that just made me laugh. (I've edited the exact statement a bit to remove any actual names)These requirements have been determined by [insert client here] based on the current understanding of [insert your application here] and the [insert client here] needs. As development, future testing, and field validation occur, additional requirements may be identified. Now normally I might not have found the following line so...

VMware... to be free (as in beer)!

News.com.com is reporting that VMware (makers of the popular virtualization products VMware Workstation, GSX Server, and ESX Server) is expected to announce early next week that they will be releasing the GSX Server software for FREE! This is awesome news for those of us who are interested being able to run multiple servers/OSs on a single box. I've been wanting to do this for a while now... a few of my plans are to: Test drive some of the latest Linux distros. Have a true Test Server for developing subText on. This...
