The New Buckeye State Brew...

A Good Beer Head

According to this AP article, the fine folks at Anheuser-Busch will soon be brewing up a special beer just for the state of Ohio. Through the end of April, Buckeye State beer lovers can visit select Columbus-area pubs to taste each of the three candidates for the official Buckeye State Brew. Then, we head off to OriginalBeers.com to cast your vote for your favorite brew. The winning beer will be announced in June and should be available on tap at pubs and restaurants throughout Ohio just a few weeks later.

About the Beers

There are three possible candidates for Ohio's custom Bud - a rich and malty lager, a Dunkel (dark) malt beer, and an American-Style Amber. Now, lets learn a bit more about each of the candidates:

Burnin' Helles

"A 7% ABV, full-bodied, rich and malty lager. Showcasing the finest domestic malts and the best hand-picked Bavarian Hallertau hops, this golden-colored beer is our salute to over 200 years of Ohio's proud brewing tradition."

Old Eyepopper

"This 5.4% ABV is eye-poppingly appealing to the palate. We blended Caramel and Chocolate malts and brewed them with Bavarian hops to produce a balanced combination of sweetness and bitterness that gives 'Old E' its deliciously dark, complex, malty and ocularly-challenging flavor."

Racer Snake Red

This reddish to amber-colored brew weighs in at a 5.5% ABV, with a 'malty-yet-hoppy' flavor. "In effort to raise the profile of the unheralded, 'official reptile of Ohio,' we've blended Tettnang, Imperial Magnum, and Saazzzzzzzzzz hops to create a majestic, all malt, American Ssstyle Amber."
