Gmail Breaks coComment's Firefox Extension.

coComment's Firefox Extension - in action!

This just in... any of you geeks out there using the following application stack:

Beware!

I'm not 100% clear on all of the details, but it seems like our friends at Google may have gone and one something evil... unintentionally I'm sure. It seems that they have made some updates to the GMail web interface. This is usually a good thing as we get more eye-candy and cool functionality. But in this case, it seems to be interfering with coComment's Firefox extension -- or rather, the extension seems to be interfering with GMail. I posted a reply to the official coComment Bugs Forum here, and from the looks of it several other users are having a similar experience.

How do I fix it?

Well, I've simply resorted to disabling the extension in general, and then enabling it whenever I'm posting any type of content online (it seems like more and more sites are supporting coComment all the time). As you can read in the Forum link above, many users have gone so far as to completely uninstall the extension, and one even said that he's reverted to GMail in HTML only. Hopefully the GMail people will put out a new-new version to clear this issue up... or perhaps it will be the coComment extension folks. Either way, I'm hoping that this issue gets enough attention to warrant a speedy fix.

If you're seeing any issues where the coComment extension seems to be breaking other sites, please post a message to the forum. Oh, and if you find out there is a fix, let me know by posting a reply here. Thanks!

It sounds like the good people at coComment have backed out the change that caused the issue with GMail. So it looks like my original speculation as to the root cause of the issue was incorrect... but, I've been wrong before.

At any rate, I've tested the extension post-backout and it does seem to be working correctly again.

Thanks for the quick reponse coComment Team!
