subTEXT Breaks Top 25 on SourceForge.net

subTEXT - Top 25 Project on SourceForge.net

I just saw that on Aug 8th, 2006 the subTEXT Project broke into the Top 25 projects hosted on SourceForge.net.

Now I'm not exactly sure what that means - nor how the rankings are calculated - but I still think it's pretty awesome and stands as a testament to the great work that the subTEXT Team and Community are doing.

Congrats All, and here's to breaking into the Top 10!

UPDATE: Haacked just sent me a link to SourceForge's Ranking algorithm. Thanks Phil!

What others are saying.

This is exciting! (I announced it on my blog as well to help spread the good news.) You and Phil and the whole team deserve a congratulations. It is exciting to see the rapid progress of subTEXT.

I just put my blog up today, so this is the first post on it. :)

@David: Thanks for the feedback and positive words... and I'm happy to hear that your subTEXT experience has been so great!

On an not-so-related note, I tried to visit your blog by clicking on your name in the above comment, but I got a 403.6 error.

Are you having some IIS configuration issues?

@Steve: Yes, IIS configuration issues indeed! It's called my own forgetfulness. I had denied access to all IP addresses except my own while getting this new blog set up. Then I forgot to change that setting once I finished working. Thanks for letting me know!

There isn't much to see yet - one post. But I just noticed that subTEXT is up to 15th at the moment, so I posted an image showing that nice milestone.

(And for the record, I've been using Subtext for another blog that has been active longer, so my positive experiences with Subtext are not coming from just one post at my new blog.)

On another not-so-related note ;) I notice that you seem to be the only one who capitalizes the name as subTEXT, while the "official" project site uses Subtext.

@David: Glad to be of help.

As for the issue you noted on the capitalization of subTEXT -- I noticed a while ago that we (both the dev team and community at large) were using all kinds of capitalization schemes for the project name. I've seen at least the following permuatations (plus other I'm sure):
  • subtext
  • subText
  • Subtext
  • SubText
  • subTEXT
  • SUBTEXT
Now anyone who knows me knows that I'm a huge fan of consistency. That being said, the plethora of capitalization styles just doesn't fly with me.

So, in an attept to both pay homage to our roots (.TEXT, a.k.a. - dotText) and give the project name a recognizable style, I try to always capitalize the name as subTEXT.

I've been meaning to raise this point to Phil and the rest of the team/community as well as write up a post on this very topic, but I've been too busy/lazy to do so. But now that you've stirred the pot, I'm sure that I'll have a post up soon.

Thanks again for the feedback!

DOH! Looks like my Keyword Filter changed the capitalization in that last post... it should have read
a.k.a - dotTEXT
Sorry about that. I've fixed my fiters.

No, this is not a case of breaking and entering. With preparations for the next release of Subtext, apparently

I prefer "Subtext" because it's a single word, not a compound word. It's time to break away from all things "dot". ;)

Sorry about that Phil... my Keyword Filter replaced your "Subtext" with my "subTEXT", but it's all better now. ;)
