This is Great. How do I "upgrade" my existing 1.9.3 install ? Do I have to reinstall the web app and db and migrate the posts using BlogML or is there an easier way ? Please advice.

Thanks

@Shiva: You absolutely do NOT need to go through all of that hassle to upgrade. We actually have a pretty clean upgrade process in place, just do the following:
  1. Backup your database!
  2. Take your site offline.
  3. Upload the new files to your webserver, overwriting the existing ones -- but be sure to merge any customized files (like web.config, skins, etc...) using a merge tool. I like WinMerge.
  4. Bring your site back online by removing, or renaming, the App_Offline.htm file from step #2.
  5. Go to your site and you'll be prompted with a screen saying that you blog is in the middle of an upgrade.
  6. You'll need to log in as the Host Admin and then follow the Upgrade Wizard to update your database.

That should be all you have to do. Please let me (and/or the Subtext Dev's ML) know if you run into any issues.

Good Luck!

Do those upgrade instructions apply to older versions too? I'm running 1.5.2.0. Could they be included in a readme in the release zip file?

Thanks,

Paul

@Paul: Upgrading from Subtext pre-1.9.x is a bit more complex b/c you are not only upgrading Subtext... but you're also upgrading the version of the .net Framework that Subtext runs on.

Phil has some good 1.9 upgrade instructions you should check out.

You can also check the Subtext Project - Docs section for more info on upgrading and configuring Subtext.

Feel free to let me (and/or the Subtext Forums) know.

I am a Newbie when it comes to implementing "blogging" on my website. How do I implement your "SubText" blogging software for the first time on my Web site.

Thanks a lot for any help you can give me.

Gert: First let me say, welcome aboard!

There are some pretty good step-by-step guides for installing and configuring Subtext on our website. There is a Docs link at the top that will take you where you need to go.

You can also check out the Wiki... which is also available from the Subtext site.

Please let me know if you have more questions. Also, you can post questions to our Open Discussion Forum.

Good luck!
