How-To: CTRL + ALT + DEL in Remote Desktop

I’m a big fan of Microsoft’s Remote Desktop - it’s built right into Windows and allows me to quickly and easily administer a remote box from the comfort of my own work station. I use it at my house to administer the headless servers on my home network, the Subtext build server, and the co-located VelocIT servers. Gotta' love that magic! Today a co-worker asked me how to send the infamous Control + Alt + Delete keystroke combination to a machine he was working on via RDP. This is a pretty common keystroke to use when trying administer windows... it...

Subtext Origami Skin - Hotfix!

Not too long ago a user sent us an email informing us that Subtext’s Origami skin didn’t have a #feedback tag, meaning it was missing a named anchor that would allow you to jump directly to the feedback portion of the page. I took a look and sure enough it didn’t. This kind of bug is typically referred to as low hanging fruit - easy to spot, quick and easy to fix. So naturally I went ahead and added the named anchor tag, checked it into the Subtext SVN repository and called it fixed. But it’s not fixed. Today I...

Subtext v1.9.6 'Parley' Is In the Works

After a very hectic month or so things are starting to slow down around here. They are slowly getting back to normal, or at least as normal as things ever were. And since Phil is utterly overwhelmed with Cody "O.G." Haack he’s been hounding me to give up my day job and spend more time Subtexting. Unfortunatly we’ve not found a rich benefactor to pay our salaries while we do what we love - build Subtext and evangelize the goodness of open source software. But I digress... The point of this rant? The point is - we were not planning...

Avoiding Accidental Recursion with ReSharper 3.0

Who here loves ReSharper? I do, I do! Now that I’ve got that out of the way, let me tell you yet one more reason that I <3 ReSharper. While doing a little Subtexting tonight I was looking through a new class and noticed a couple those little yellow ReSharper (R# from now on) warning lights. You know, the ones it so kindly puts next to the vertical scroll bar to let you know there are some things that need your attention. The first one was safe to ignore - a warning about an unused...

Geek Pr0n: The Harman Home Network

As a geek there is only one thing I love as much as shiny gadgets - pictures of shiny gadgets I have yet to acquire! It should come as no surprise that Jeff and Scott’s recent posts about building the Ultimate Developer Rig have triggered a fair amount of geek envy among the community. Want it, want it, gotta' have it! In attempt to curb my desires to go out and build a new rig, or buy in the case of the MBP I’ve lusting for, I’ve decided to post a little geek pr0n of my own. Be...

Setting a Default Browser for Visual Studio

My dev box recently decided that all USB devices - along with several other pieces of hardware - were inherently evil and in the end I decided to just repave the machine. It has been about 6 or so months since I first moved to Vista and it was time for a fresh install anyhow. After reinstalling and configuring my box I sat to do some real work (hey, I gotta' pay that mortgage). So I fired up Visual Studio and got busy. I work primarily on web applications and I have a few browsers installed on my box...
