Happy Hour Brought to You by... The Internet?

As I don't like to cross-post, you'll have to go to my other blog to get the full scoop! But the upshot is - there is a new online directory for Happy Hour locations! Some of the cool features are search by city & neighborhood, mash-up with Google Maps, tagging, reviews, and my personal favorite - Pub Crawl Maps! Get the full story here.

I'm News Worthy?

OK, so it's not like I made it on HeadlineNews or something... but it still feels good to see your name in the headline for a news item. And it feels even better when the news is coming from your employer - VelocIT Hires Steve Harman. Admittedly, this is somewhat old news, but I just noticed the announcement yesterday so it's exciting (to me)! Besides, I've been meaning to blog about this transition for a while now and this gives me an excuse. The story As the news items says, I was introduced to VelocIT (pronounced: vuh-los-i-tee) by company co-founder Phil...

Cincinnati Code Camp 2007 - Be There Or Be Square!

It's that time of the year again... time for the 4th annual Cincinnati Code Camp, brought to you by the Cinci .NET Users Group and the Dayton .NET Devs Group. In case you couldn't tell by the title of this post, I'll be there and you should be too! It doesn't look like there are any official I'll be there badges (a.k.a. - Blog Bling) for Code Camp... so maybe I'll have to hit-up Jon and see if he can whip something together for the event. Off to CodeMash

Ok, I'm on my way out the door, headed for CodeMash. I feel like I'm forgetting to bring something... oh well, hopefully it's nothing important. If I find some time (and bandwidth) I might try to post some updates from the event. If not, I'll be back soon! Oh yeah... any of you Subtext-ers that are going to be there, drop me a line (err... comment) and let me know so we can meet up. -Steve, OUT!

First Post! (of the year)

Not much to say, just had to get that out there. I hope everyone had a fun and safe New Year's Eve celebration... I know I did. And to prove it, I'll share a few pictures of the night's events with all of you. Enjoy!

Readers, I Need Your Help...

Tonight on the way back from dinner (Ok - pizza and beer at Byrne's Pub) Carli was asking what I did today so I started to tell her, in all too much detail, about how I helped a buddy install a new Subtext blog, built a new Virtual Machine for some development work, read some blogs... yadda-yadda. Then she brought to my attention that my blog "has way to much geeky stuff". To be honest I didn't even know that she looked at this site, but she said that she usually just reads the headlines, looks at the pictures, and then...

Paintball + Family = Big Fun... and Bruises

What's better than a friendly family football game over the Thanksgiving Holiday? How about a day of running through the woods, armed with compressed air, thousands of paint-packed gelatin balls, and semi-automatic weapons! This past Thanksgiving my family continued our favorite new tradition - The Poeppelman Family Turkey Shoot with another awesome day of paintball. My family is so into the sport that one of my uncles actually built a series of paintball fields on a large piece of property that he owns - complete with air filling station, chrono, staging area, etc... I've been playing paintball for roughly the past 10...

The New Buckeye State Brew...

According to this AP article, the fine folks at Anheuser-Busch will soon be brewing up a special beer just for the state of Ohio. Through the end of April, Buckeye State beer lovers can visit select Columbus-area pubs to taste each of the three candidates for the official Buckeye State Brew. Then, we head off to OriginalBeers.com to cast your vote for your favorite brew. The winning beer will be announced in June and should be available on tap at pubs and restaurants throughout Ohio just a few weeks later. About the Beers There are three possible candidates for Ohio's custom...

The Official Guide to a Successful St. Patty's Day

With Saint Patrick's Day is just around the corner I've had a slew of Irish/St.Patty's day emails flowing through my inbox... as I'm sure most of you have. As I've said before, I tend to ignore most Fwd's that come my way, but on occasion I come across a real Emerald Isle Gem. This is no exception... The following is vital reading for all of us looking to have a successful St. Patrick's celebration: The Offical Guide to Troubleshooting St. Patty's Day Beer-nomolies: Symptom Cause Corrective Action Feet cold and wet. Glass being held at incorrect angle. Rotate glass so that open end points toward ceiling. Feet warm...

A Happy New Year Indeed... at Least for Buckeye Fans!

First off, let me just say Go BUCKS! It was truely was an exhilarating and hard fought game last night. Second, I would like to offer my condolences to all of you Notre Shame fans out there. If you need help coping with the loss, I got this from a coworker who happens to be a huge Fighting Irish fan. Now lets hope that the rest of the Big10 (only Penn State has yet to play) can win the big games and show how great this conference is! On a related note (and because I think USC is the most over-rated team in...

Beat M*ch!g@n Week - a brief history lesson.

Seeing as this is Beat M*ch*gan Week here in Buckeye Country, I thought that I'd share a little (and probably very obscure) bit of the history of this great rivalry. Well, its at least a possible explanation for the great animosity between O-H...I-O, and Meeeshagun. The Michigan game. Just mention this in Columbus and you can see emotions stir and blood pressures rise. But why is the Ohio/Michigan rivalry one of the most intense and most well-known rivalries in the country? The Michigan vs. Ohio saga may have started in 1803.The Toledo War.The Rotary Club of Toledo is the largest club...

A Visit to Chi-town.

Carli and I are headed up to Chicago for a few days to do some shopping, visiting with friends, drinking (I've heard I should avoid the Old Style)... and maybe even some touristy stuff? We're staying near on the Mile so we'll be close to lots of good shopping and tons of great pubs! This will be her first trip to the Windy City, and I'm hoping she enjoys it so I can talk her into coming back in June for NextFest! Anyhow, I hope to have some great pics and maybe even some funny stories for...
